hi,

i have recently been diagnosed with a low grade 1/2 glioma of the brain. i am also 25 weeks pregnant. i was wondering whether there are any guidlines on what happens in this situtation and what is recommended  etc. with regards to birth specifically. any idea where i can find out some more information. it seems like a tennis match between my midwife and neurology consultant trying to find answers!

thank you

  • Hi Locl6,

Thanks for getting in touch, and welcome to our online community.

My name is Carole and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

Sometimes looking for information about what is recommended can help you to feel more in control. It’s understandable to want to know if there are specific guidelines for your medical teams to use.

Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to find any which say what should happen when a low-grade glioma is diagnosed during pregnancy.

It would be helpful to know if your neurologist has spoken to your obstetrician as well as your midwife. They may have had a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meeting. Meetings like these, allow a group of medical experts to share knowledge and expertise. Afterwards, you should be able to discuss what was recommended, and have an opportunity to ask questions.

We understand how difficult it can be, being newly diagnosed and waiting to hear what’s recommended. If you’d like to talk to one of the nurses, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch on the phone.

    Sending best wishes,

    Carole
