Had my infusion yesterday and feeling/coping with the side effects. Obv I have a temperature/fever but how high is too high? It was 39.3 earlier I’m taking paracetamol which has brought it down for now to mid 38s.

reluctant to call my treatment line cause I feel they just use a pc package to ask questions and as soon as “tick” the o er 37.5 temp your jyy it at automatically sent to a&e.

getting plenty of rest, drinking loads of fluids on the beam time.

  • Hello Trixter,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community.

My name is Carole and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I see from your profile that you’ve joined our online breast cancer forum. I hope it will be a good source of support.

I’m sorry to read that you have developed a high temperature following your zoledronic acid infusion yesterday.

After this treatment, some people have mild flu-like symptoms such as a high temperature, chills and pain in the muscles or joints.

We are concerned that your temperature is very high.

Unfortunately, we can’t access medical notes as we are not part of the NHS. This means we can’t give advice about specific situations.

Your treatment line really is best placed to give advice.

It’s really important that you give them a call straight away.

They may use a triage tool and can look at your medical notes to help ensure you get the best advice. They will only send you to A&E if they think this is necessary.

    I hope this is helpful.

Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.

The Macmillan Support Line offers practical, clinical, financial and emotional support. You can call us free from landlines and from most mobile phone networks on 0808 808 00 00, 7 days a week, 8am – 8pm.

    Best wishes,

    Carole
