  1. Have been using Aldara on a 4cm lesion on my chest for 4 weeks. The area is weepy, scabby (the scabs keep catching/sticking to clothing) and very sore. Should I just keep applying the cream to the scabby parts and avoid the weepy parts? Do you have any advice on how to stop the scabs sticking to clothing? Thank you.
  • Hi Snedz,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the Online Community. I’m Kate one of the Cancer Information Nurses here on the Macmillan Support Line.

I am sorry to hear that you have skin Cancer. The immunotherapy cream (Aldara)  you have been using for 4 weeks, does have side effects where the area can become sore and leak fluid. It is suggested that the treatment maybe paused or sometimes stopped.

I would advise you to contact your dermatology team as they will be able to give you clear instructions on what to do. They may want to assess the area affected.

With the scabs sticking to your clothing, you may be able to apply a dressing. The dermatology team can advise you on this.

I hope this information is useful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.
