I was put on ramapril  as the herceptin was affecting my heart function after 9 herceptin injections I was having bouts of diahorrea so injections were discontinued Ramapril was giving me a cough so came of that too. After a few weeks back on ramipril no cough but diahorea began  which was fine I can cope. 4 weeks ago started herceptin injection diahorea was about 3 days a week. My herceptin injection a week past on Monday and I've had one 12hour period without diahorea. Loperamide doesn't seem to help ,

TIA Alexis

  • Hi GrannyX

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the Online Community. I’m Debbie, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line. I am sorry to hear that you are having diarrhoea and can understand how disruptive and worrying this can be.

Both Herceptin and Ramipril can cause diarrhoea. Everyone reacts differently to medicines and some people are more affected by the diarrhoea than others.

Here at the Macmillan Support Line we are able to give general information and support. We are independent from the NHS and don’t have access to medical records so we can’t give personalised information. There is information on our website about diarrhoea due to cancer treatments, and also tips about staying hydrated and managing the diarrhoea, which may be helpful for you.

As we are not directly involved in your care, we are not able to advise about adjusting your medicines and what might help to control the diarrhoea for you. So we recommend that you contact your cancer treatment team today and let them know what is happening. The team can then assess your medicines and adjust them or make changes if needed. I hope that you are able to contact your treatment team at the hospital quickly so that they can advise you.

If the diarrhoea continues or becomes severe, we would always recommend that you contact the hospital team looking after you, your GP, or 111 straight away.

I hope that this information is helpful.

    With best wishes

    Debbie
