my main question is ,is that score a concern as it says a normal result <10 many thanks

  • Hi Tyson1,

Welcome to the online community. My name is Anne, and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurses from the Support Line. I understand you have had a positive FIT test and would like more information about your results.

A positive FIT test (including one with a reading of 400 or more) does not necessarily mean that you have cancer. For instance, it is possible for a reading like this to be caused by non-cancerous conditions such as polyps. However, it does warrant further investigations like a colonoscopy to determine exactly what is causing the bleeding. It is likely your GP will also wish to carry out some blood tests.

You should hopefully hear about a date for your colonoscopy soon. It’s natural to feel anxious during this time and it can be difficult coping with the uncertainty. If you feel it might help to talk to one of our Nurses on the Support Line, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. Waiting for results can be a worrying time and it may help to talk about how you are feeling.

    Take care for now,

Anne - Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
