Breast cancer, receiving chemo for 6 months plus physgo for 12 months, radiotherapy once chemo stops. Will I still need steroids, anti sickness etc when just on physgo? Will my hair start to grow back or will I have to wait till physgo ends?

  • Hi BexF

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community. My name is Sherrye and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I can see you’ve joined the breast cancer forum; I hope you are finding this helpful.

Here is Macmillan’s webpage on Phesgo which is a combination of two targeted therapy drugs called Trastuzumab and Pertuzumab.

It’s important to remember that everyone’s experience on a treatment is different. Though some people can have nausea while having Phesgo on its own, not everyone is routinely offered regular anti-sickness medication.

If you are worried about this, it would be beneficial to have a conversation with your consultant or clinical nurse specialist before you run out of any medication you currently have.

Steroids are generally not needed while having just Phesgo.

With regards to your hair, Phesgo can cause hair thinning rather than hair loss. So, you may find that once you’re just on Phesgo your hair will start to grow back after a few weeks but may be fragile.

My new hair offers some good information and advice about products and how to care for new hair growth. (Page 30 onwards)

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Sherrye H,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
