I have been having treatment for Myloma, going into hospital on Monday for Stem Cell transplant.

I was told by a friend that oat milk is not recommended for cancer patients,

does anyone know if this is true or not.

thanks

  • Hi Jazzybob68

Thank you for getting in touch. My name is Joanne, and I’m one of the cancer information nurses. I can see that you have joined the myeloma forum and I hope this has helped you.

There isn’t any scientific evidence that oat milk can cause problems for cancer patients. Myeloma UK has information on diet and nutrition for people affected by myeloma which you may find useful. It is important to compare the nutritional values of oat milk in comparison to other milks. Plant based milks may not have the same calcium levels, so it is important to choose one that is fortified with calcium and Vitamin D.

You mention you are due to have a stem cell transplant and there may be some restrictions to your diet whilst you are neutropenic. I would advise you to check with your team if oat milk is advised during this time.

    Take care and best wishes

    Joanne
