  • Hello Leah,

Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to the online community. My name’s Linda and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

It’s difficult even for the specialists to predict what may happen in the future but they can give an estimate using statistics which they take from research studies over many years.

This can however change over time with new research, advances in treatment and how you respond to your treatment. Other factors can affect your prognosis, such as your general health and if you have other health conditions.

I would encourage you to talk this through with your consultant. They have more detailed information about your cancer and are best placed to answer your questions.

You may find our information on secondary cancer helpful. Others find it beneficial to share experiences with others in a similar situation, so you may find our cancer forums on the online community useful.

Coping with changing emotions can be overwhelming at times, there is no right or wrong way to do this.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes
