Is it ok to have a CT scan the day after chemo for ovarian cancer?

I tested positive for Covid so my CT scan couldn’t go ahead and the new date is the day after my next chemo. The scan has been rescheduled quickly so my consultant’s appointment can go ahead.

  • Hi Sholby,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

Sorry to hear of your ovarian cancer diagnosis.

It may be a good idea to make your hospital team aware now that the date of your CT scan has been made for the day after chemo. They may want to bring the scan forward.

We can’t say how you will feel the day after chemotherapy so it may be wise to have this re-scheduled.

Sometimes a CT scan is done with a dye (Contrast) medium which can be given as a drink or an injection. Sometimes people have an allergic reaction to the dye but this is rare.

If you still proceed to have a CT scan the day after your chemotherapy then please make the Radiographer aware before you start the procedure.

Sometimes people gain strength in talking to other who may be in a similar situation. Our Ovarian Cancer Forum may be a good place to start.

Alternatively, Eve Appeal, Ovacome or Target Ovarian Cancer are all good sources of information and support.

If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch

    Best wishes

    David, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
