  • Hi ,

My name is Amy and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line. Welcome to our online community.

I’m sorry to hear your dad’s memory and confusion is getting worse. It’s hard to see someone you love like this.

It’s difficult for me to say exactly what is causing your dad’s symptoms. I would encourage you to give the GP a call this morning and ask for them to review your dad today. Explain he has a terminal cancer with worsening symptoms. They may even be able to get a district nurse to visit the house.

Sometimes medication can be the cause of confusion and sometimes it can be caused by the cancer itself.

I also wonder if your dad has a palliative care nurse, they often come from the local hospice? If you do, you can usually contact them directly and ask for a home visit. If your dad doesn’t have this support, you can ask for the GP to make a referral.

You can read more about who can help at home in this link.

We often find we can help more by exploring these questions over the phone. If this is something you think would help, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch via our support line on 0808 808 0000. We are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

Amy C, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
