  • Hello Estartit

My name is Kim and I’m one of the cancer information nurses here at the Macmillan Support Line. I’m sorry to read you are feeling achy and have nerve pain after your 1st chemotherapy.

It’s very important that you let your chemotherapy team know straight away if you are feeling unwell after chemotherapy, as this can be a sign you have an infection. Anyone on chemotherapy is usually given a 24 hour telephone number to call.

You should call that number now and speak to the nurses at the hospital where you have your chemotherapy and explain to them how you are feeling. They can then guide you as to whether you need to come into hospital to be checked for any signs of infection.

If you can’t get through to anyone on that 24 hour number, then please call NHS111 by dialling 111. Explain that you are on chemotherapy and have started to feel unwell.

Don’t wait until the morning to call as feeling unwell and achy could be signs you are developing an infection. Anyone on chemotherapy who picks up an infection could become very unwell very quickly as your immune system isn’t able to fight an infection as well as usual. So you need to be call your team or NHS111 tonight.

I hope this is helpful to you Estartit.

    Kind regards
