My mother has been on Tagrisso 80mg (osimertinib) for 6 years following surgery to remove NSCLC adenocarcinoma in her lung. She's having mild side effects, the cancer has not progressed/returned and is wondering how long the medication can or should be taken?

  • Hi Monkey91,

Welcome to our online community and thank you for your question. My name is Sharon and I’m one of the cancer information nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

It is good to hear that your mother’s cancer has not progressed or returned since her surgery 6 years ago.

Osimertinib can continue to be given if it is working and the side effects can be managed. It is important that your mother speaks to her team and lets them know about the side effects she is having. They might be able to review her treatment plan and sometimes there are ways to reduce side effects.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Sending best wishes

    Sharon C
