Hi,

I was diagnosed with ER+ invasive ductal carcinoma in October 22, I had a lumpectomy in November and have now started monthly Zoldex injections with view to starting Exemestane next week on my second Zoladex injection

I was reading yesterday that it is not recommended to take Turmeric with Tamoxifen. I have a list of what supplements I am taking below, are they all okay?

Evening Primose Oil (for Menopause symptoms)
Magnesium (for Menopause symptoms)
Vitamin D (for Menopause symptoms)
Omega 3 Fish Oil (for Menopause symptoms)
Centrum multivitamin (for General Health)
Collagen (for skin)
Turmeric (for joints)
Berocca

Thanks for your advice on these

  • Hi

Thanks for getting in touch with your enquiry. I see from your profile that you have joined some of our groups and I hope you are finding them helpful. Support from others in similar situation can be invaluable.

As nurses working on this type of platform I’m afraid we can’t offer guidance about the use of supplements or over the counter medication in general. This is because don’t have any access to medical records and wouldn’t like to make any suggestions that may impact on your treatment plan.

From safety point of view, we always recommend speaking with your hospital team for advice about the use of supplements.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center do have information about herbs, botanicals and other products. This might be helpful to look at, but it shouldn’t be used as an alternative to discussing your query with your specialist or breast care nurse, if you have one.

On our website we have this guidance about health eating. And it might also help to look at Penny Braun’s resources for information about nutrition and well-being in general.

I’m not sure if you have spoken to anyone about the menopausal symptoms you are having. If not it’s worth speaking with your GP or hospital team, they may be able to suggest treatments other than HRT. Menopause Matters has some good information about alternative techniques and therapies on their website. This could be helpful to look at prior to any discussion about what might help.

I’m sorry we can’t answer your question fully and hope you find the links helpful. If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch

    Best wishes

    Linda, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
