Hello, I’ve had a couple dark purple marks on the underside of my  right breast for several weeks, maybe even a month or so. The pores are also much larger in that area than elsewhere on the breast. I am concerned this may be a sign of inflammatory breast cancer although I’m embarrassed to make a GP appointment incase it’s absolutely nothing.

  • Dear

Thank you for getting in touch on our Online Community, I’m Sue one of the information nurses on the Support Line.

We fully appreciate that you may be feeling this way and are concerned about what is happening.

Although we are unable to say why this is happening, we would always encourage someone to report any new symptoms or concerns they may have to the GP, rather than leave things. It’s much better to get things checked out early rather than leaving things, as this can lead to more uncertainty, potentially trying to find answers for yourself and increased worry.

Whilst it’s fully understandable you may feel embarrassed about making a GP appointment, in case it is nothing, it is much better to report your symptoms to your GP as they can then medically assess you and offer you the right advice and support.

Following the assessment this may, or may not, involve being referred for further tests at the hospital, but please be reassured if this were to happen, it is purely to have a closer look at the area.

If it would help to speak to one of our nurses about how you are feeling and what is happening, please don’t hesitate to call us on the Support Line, we will be more than happy to talk through things with you.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Sending best wishes

    Sue
