My brother was recently diagnosed with Stage II myeloma with 30% cell involvement on biopsy after undiagnosed back pain.  MRI shows he has a tumor on spine and I was wondering will the first treatments with radiation prescribed by his local oncologist will help with reducing the size and pain associated with the tumor.  His first major oncologist appt will be with a major cancer treatment center in the US within the next two weeks.

  • Hi Chiswick

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the Macmillan Online Community.

I see that you are a member of a few our forums and hope that you are finding them helpful.

I’m sorry to read about your brother’s diagnosis of myeloma.

When people are having bone problems then radiotherapy can be given to reduce the pain and any other symptoms.

It’s good to read that he has appointments in the next few weeks with his oncologist, when he should be told what his treatment plan will be.

As a UK-based charity we cannot answer questions about people with cancer who live outside the UK. This is because there are differences in health services and care in other countries. The information I’ve given you is based on the UK standard treatment.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,
