Hi Casawino,
Thank you for getting in touch on our online community. My name is Ursula and I am one of the Macmillan Cancer Information nurse specialists.
I can see you have joined our breast cancer and secondary breast cancer forums. I hope you’re finding these helpful.
It is encouraging to read that you want to continue to exercise whilst going through treatment. However, Ribociclib can reduce the number of white cells in your blood. These are the cells that fight infection. While your number of white blood cells are reduced, your cancer doctor might advise you to avoid public places where the risk of getting an infection is higher. This might include swimming pools.
We would always recommend talking to your treatment team about this. They would have the best understanding of your current situation and would be able to advise on things to avoid whilst having treatment.
We have some information on physical activity and cancer and different types of physical activity, where you could look at possible alternatives to swimming?
I hope you find this helpful and please don’t hesitate to get back in touch with us as needed.
Best wishes,
Ursula
