Hi Caru,
Welcome to our online community and thanks for posting your question.
There are lots of things that could influence whether you are advised to use a sauna/hot tub now or if you should wait a little longer. In some cases, you may be advised to avoid them indefinitely. For example, are your wounds completely healed, type of reconstruction you had and did you have any lymph nodes removed.
I would recommend giving your breast care nurse of surgeon, usually via their secretary, a call to find out if they feel the timing is right for you.
It is also worth checking your local spa/ pool’s policy on using their facilities after cancer treatment. Some request a letter from your cancer team stating they are happy for you to use facilities and have treatments.
Sometimes if you have had the lymph nodes removed you can be at a greater risk of developing lymphoedema. Reducing the risk is life-long and often advised to avoid prolonged period in extreme heat (like a sauna).
I hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Amy C, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
