Hi
I have had a recent CT scan after being NED for almost 2 years following Anal Cancer treatment. I have been told that they have found a 1cm lesian on my lung which means further scans. Has anyone else ever had this?
Thanks in advance
Michelle

Hi Michelle75300
Thanks for getting in touch with us. My name is Tricia and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.
I am sorry to hear that they have found a lesion on the lung and it is understandable to have questions about this finding. I imagine this came as quite a surprise to you after being NED during your surveillance. The follow up is to check for any problems post treatment and to check for any changes or any early signs of cancer coming up.
As we are not directly involved with your care and unable to access NHS records, we are not able to comment on your specific circumstances.
However, lung lesions can be found during surveillance and it's good that you are having further scans to see what this might be. The lesion can be due to infection, scarring, other benign reasons, or an early sign of cancer.
The scans will be discussed at your teams MDT (multi-disciplinary meeting) and they can then ascertain what this lesion may be. This may warrant further tests, an interval scan to check for resolution or changes or no follow up.
Waiting for scans and results can be a worrying time. Hopefully you have a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to contact regarding timings of scans and results or any queries you have in the meantime.
I hope this is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch at any time.
Sending best wishes,
Tricia
