Small pink mark on breast weeks after lumpectomy.

Hello, I’m due to start my radiotherapy 5 weeks after lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy for 20mm invasive ductal breast cancer. My wounds have healed well and the hard lump in my breast ( seroma ? ) is beginning to soften.

over the last few days I’ve noticed a small circle of pink appear on my skin. About the size of a penny. It’s very faint and at first I thought it was a bruise. It’s not in the area where I had the tumour removed but at the top where I had a large amount of calcifications, which were benign on biopsy. I don’t want to make a fuss but should I ring BC nurse before my radiotherapy starts next week?
many thanks

  • Dear Mumma3,

Thank you for getting in touch with us, and welcome to our online community. My name is Annerose I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses here at the Macmillan Cancer Support line.

It is understandable to feel concerned about anything new or different, and it is hard to tell what it might be on this platform, as we do not have access to your medical records.

We would recommend for you to contact your BC nurses, they are best place to give you advice, and it is not making a fuss. They would want to know what is going on, especially if it is something that is worrying you.

I hope this information is helpful, but if you would ever like to talk with one of the nurses on the support line, we’d be more than happy to talk things through.

    Best wishes and take care
