Hi just wondering if your fingerprints come back after a while on capecitbane? I've had 4 cycles now following previous treatment of palbo and letrozole for 2 years for secondary Breast Cancer in liver and spine, which stopped working. The  the biometrics don't work on my phone anymore.

  • Hi Sandra,

My name is Liz and I’m one of the Macmillan cancer information nurse specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

Thank you for contacting us about loss of your fingerprints after taking capecitabine.

In the article Capecitabine and the Risk of Fingerprint Loss you can see that the loss of fingerprints for people taking capecitabine is a potential consequence of capecitabine-associated HFS(Hand-foot syndrome) For most people there is a complete recovery of fingerprints within 2-4 weeks of treatment finishing.

I would suggest that you speak to your oncologist if your fingerprints haven’t recovered during that time in case there is anything they can suggest.

It may be worth considering using other biometrics on your phone such as face or voice recognition, whilst your fingerprints recover.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you have any further questions, please get in touch by email, webchat or phone. • Thank you Liz. I think I'm on the Capecitbane for as long as I can hoping for a stabilisation of the progression, so will just have to change my biometrics as you say. Much appreciated
