Not feeling well

Hi, I finished chemo in February and after a few weeks joined the gym, although it was hard at first after a few months I felt so much better and stronger, had loads of energy and felt I was getting back to normal. This last month I've not been too good, if I go to the gym I can't do as much and have no energy for anything else that day, I've also got some pain in my stomach and my bowels have been very loose and this last wk I've had a constant headache at the back of my head, never normally get headaches. I've been reluctant to ring gp as didn't want to get fobbed off with pain killers then have to go back if they don't help. I'm not sure if you can still contact your breast cancer nurse for things like this. Do you have any advice please. Thankyou

  • Hi Juju54

Thanks for getting in touch. I’m Debbie, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line and am glad that you contacted us. It is great that you finished your chemotherapy and felt well and also good that you can go to the gym.

I am sorry to read that you are now feeling unwell and have various symptoms. There could be a number of different causes for the stomach pain and headaches. Unfortunately, as nurses on the Macmillan Support Line, we are not able to make a diagnosis from your symptoms.

I understand that you don’t want to bother your GP but when someone has unexplained symptoms we advise that you get advice from your GP, or call NHS111 if they continue or get worse. If you still have a 24 hour number for your chemotherapy team, you can call them. Or you could contact your breast care nurse. They will be willing to see you even when your treatment has ended.

I hope that this information is helpful and that you are able to get advice from your GP, NHS 111 or the treatment team soon.

    With best wishes

    Debbie
