Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community. My name is Paula and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.
It’s great news that you’ve finished your chemotherapy last week.
Our hair can be an important part of our appearance and identity, so we understand how losing any hair, can be one of the hardest parts of treatment.
During this time, it is a good idea to use gentle non-medicated products in your hair. There are some tips on page 42-43 of the Macmillan booklet coping with hair loss.
Hair grows in cycles – it grows, rests then falls out. Chemotherapy can disrupt this cycle, causing hair to move from the growth part to the resting part more quickly. Cancer Hair Care explain this in more detail as well as useful tips of products and how to manage here
My new hair offers some good advice about products and how to manage and limit hair thinning (page 35-37).
Cancer Hair Care also offers very good and comprehensive advice about scalp cooling. Usually we would recommend visiting your hairdresser who might be able to cut your hair in a more manageable style or give you advice specific to your hair type.
I see you have joined a number of our forums, I hope you find these useful.
Please don’t hesitate getting back in touch with us if you need any further help or support.
Take Care Paula
