Hello, I had uterine cancer in 2020. Hystetectomy in July 2020 and bracytherapy in September 2020.  Since January 2022 been experiencing pain in side and pelvic/tummy pain. My consultant has sent me for a pelvic/abdominal CT scan.

Sorry if this is a silly question but will a CT scan be able to pick up any problem in my bowels too and will I be informed as this will obviously involve a different hospital department.  Thank you.

  • Hello, my name is Gail and I’m one of the Macmillan cancer information nurse specialists. Thanks for getting in touch through our Online Community.

CT of the abdomen and pelvis can help detect diseases of the small bowel, colon, and other internal organs. It is often used to determine the cause of unexplained pain.

Depending on the results, your consultant may want to request further investigations or refer you to a different medical team. I hope your pain is under control, but if not, it’s worth chatting things through with your GP, who’ll be able to help.
