Hi

I would be most grateful if you could advise concerning the 4th Booster Covid Vaccine.

I suffer from advanced prostate cancer, I am not currently receiving hospital treatment though I do take regular medication to try and control the condition. I would like to know if I am eligible for the Spring Booster Covid Vaccine. I thought I was under the vulnerable category as a cancer sufferer, but I have not received a letter inviting me to book a 4th vaccine. I have looked at booking online, but apparently you need documention to book an appointment, either a letter advising me to book or medical evidence saying I have a weekened immune system, neither of which I have.

I would be grateful for any advice you could give me has I am keen to have a 4th vaccine if I meet the criteria.

  • Hi Darren,

Welcome to the Online Community here at Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 4th Covid 19 ‘Spring Booster’ is currently being offered to a limited population of those at highest risk with reduced immune systems. Having a cancer diagnosis alone doesn’t necessarily make an individual more susceptible to Corona Virus thankfully.

Presently, the Spring Booster is available for over 75’s, those who live in care homes and those who are clinically vulnerable due to suppressed or weakened immunity.

Cancers that affect the blood like leukaemia, lymphoma or other myeloproliferative conditions can impair immunity. Those who are having or have had recent chemotherapy, or those who have had radical lung radiotherapy or surgery or have immunosuppression from another condition are likely to be eligible.

There is more information on who is eligible on both the NHS and the Government websites.

If you feel you fall into any of these categories, then we would encourage you to contact your healthcare provider who can investigate this further for you. Most of the population wait to hear if we will need or be invited for another dose nearer the autumn.

I hope this information is helpful for you today.

    Wishing you all the best.
