Hi I finished radiotherapy to my right breast on 10th December 2021 and eventually the pain and swelling did subside and everything seemed to be back to normal.

However just lately I have been swelling up overnight and although not constant have had some pain.

Im worried about lymphoedema as had 3 lymph nodes removed at the time of surgery.

Am I worrying needlessly or should I insist on being checked out?

  • Hi Pec,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community.

We don’t think you are worrying needlessly. Any new or worsening side effect or symptom should be assessed or examined by a doctor or specialist nurse.

As nurses on this type of platform, we can’t say if this swelling and pain is caused by lymphoedema.

We would recommend getting in touch with your GP, 111 or someone from your breast care team, straight away, so that you can be assessed for lymphoedema or infection.

    I hope this is helpful,

    Best wishes,

    Carole (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
