Hi I had partial nephrectomy 2 months back in February. I had histology clinic 2 weeks later. Planning to go back to work in May or June. I would like to know that  do I have a 3rd month follow up to check on my progress? I'm very anxious to go back to work without discussing with my consultant.

Thanks

Chan

  • Hello Chan,

Thanks for getting in touch with us. It’s understandable that you are anxious about going back to work.

Follow up frequency is normally based on your individual risk of your cancer returning. This is usually something that would be discussed with you, but you should expect to have appointments on a regular basis for the 1st year after surgery. These would normally be 3-4 months apart.

I appreciate that you would like to discuss return to work with your consultant, so you may wish to contact them to find out when they plan to see you again. You can arrange an extra appointment if needed. Alternatively, you can speak with your Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). If you have not been given contact details for your nurse, the hospital will be able to give those details.

You may find our information on Work and cancer helpful. We also have our work support team who understand your rights at work and can offer you guidance.

I hope this helps and I wish you well on your return to work.

    Best wishes,

Linda J. (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
