Hi,

I have a query that I dont want to ask my GP or Consultant has they are obviously very busy, but  hope you don't mind answering, if you are able to.

I have advanced prostate cancer and take Enzulamide (Xtandi) 40mg daily. I also have quarterly hormone injections to help to control the cancer. Furthermore I eat and drink healthily to help with my condition. I am also planning to start drinking Matcha Tea which is stronger variety than normal green tea with a much higher concentration of antioxidents. It has many health benefits, including being apparently good for cancer patients.

My question is that I would like know if drinking Matcha is likely to interfere with my taking Enzulamide, has I have read that sometimes drinking green tea can interfere with some cancer medication's.

I hope you will be able to help with my query, and thankyou in advance for any advice you may be able to give me.

Kind regards

  • Dear Harri53,

Thanks very much for getting in touch and welcome to our online community, I hope you find it supportive. I can appreciate that you are considering possible interactions of Matcha tea while on treatment for prostate cancer.

We know about some interactions between herbs and cancer treatment, including green tea supplements. We would recommend talking to either your GP, Consultant or pharmacist first if you are considering taking any herbal remedies. They will need to know about all the medications you are taking in order to give you the best advice.

You could discuss this with a Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacist, either in-store or virtually.

There is still insufficient medical evidence to make exact recommendations about which foods are beneficial to eat, or which to avoid following a cancer diagnosis. Cancer Research UK has useful information on alternative cancer diets and the lack of research-based evidence to support them.

In general, cancer experts and Macmillan advocate following a healthy balanced diet. Here is some further information about diet and cancer and a link to our booklet Healthy Eating and Cancer.

    Best wishes,
