Lymph nodes removed

Hi in Aug I had a radical hysterectomy and so had my lymph nodes removed in groin. I was told it could be numb for a few months but it’s 6 months and if they are not aching, they are shooting electric shocks down them. Has anyone got tips on how to help with the aching and pain? Plus how long it you go until you could feel that area again without numbness?

thank you

  • Hi Kelly

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the online community.

I see that you’ve joined the cervical cancer forum and womb cancer forum. I hope that you’re finding these groups supportive and informative.

The pain you’re experiencing sounds difficult. Given that you describe it as like electrical shocks it may be nerve related. Nerves can take a considerable time to heal. I do wonder what pain killers you’re taking. There are specific pain killers for nerve pain. You can talk to your GP or your specialist about this.

Most women say they start to feel their ‘normal’ selves after three to six months. If you’re concerned about how you are feeling, then it would be a good idea to talk to your GP or specialist team about this.

I hope that things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
