Hello, I have had my CT scan. Oncologist appt 21st March. After that chemo then surgery. My question is when is the best time to buy a non wired bra. Do I leave it until after surgery( whatever I have) or do I get a non wired bra that is front opening now. Thanks for any advice.

  • Hi BobbysGirl,

Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to our online community

It must be a very worrying time waiting to start your treatment for breast cancer. It’s also understandable you want to prepare for the surgery, by getting the right information about what bras to wear and when.

Usually, you don’t have to wear any specific bra, unless your Consultant has advised you too. Breast surgery and sometimes radiotherapy can make the chest area feel very sensitive. Most woman find soft, front opening bra’s more comfortable to wear especially in the first few weeks and up to a year following surgery.

It would be helpful to talk to your Breast Cancer Care nurse who can advise you on what bras you may benefit from wearing. You might find Breast Cancer Now’s list of stockists and Cancer Research UK’s shop helpful. Sometimes talking to others on the online community can be useful, they have been through the same procedure and can offer advice from their experience.

I hope this information is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you have any more questions.

    Best Wishes.

    Lorna
