  • Hi blaky

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the online community.

My name is Paula and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis. It’s not clear from your post if it's yourself or a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer. However, I can appreciate how difficult this news must be for you right now. Especially when you’ve been told your cancer has already spread to other organs.

It’s natural to have lots of questions at this stage. We would recommend talking to your team if there is anything, you’re unsure about. Particularly if there is any treatment available or any clinical trials that you can participate in.

It is worth also asking your team to refer you to the community Palliative Care Nurse in your area. Their role and expertise are symptom management which can be offered in the comfort of your own home.

Living with an advanced cancer can stir up a lot of emotions which can be overwhelming. There is no right or wrong way to feel or manage this. Everyone reacts in different ways. Some people find it helpful to talk to others in the same situation.

Our online community is a good place to communicate with others. We have an online Kidney Cancer Forum you may find helpful. Kidney Cancer UK is another good resource to access for support.

I hope this has been helpful.

You can also speak with the Macmillan Support Line team of experts. Phone free on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or email us.

    Kind regards

    Paula-Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
