Hello,

Are there any suggestions on how to keep a Midline dry while swimming.  I have tried

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07XCLPF4C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and

PICC Line Waterproof Plaster Cast & Dressing Cover | Protector | Arm Sleeve | Also for Bandages & Plasters | Protection During Shower & Bath | Soft Aperture | Latex Free | Reusable | Size S-M

Neither of these have worked.  Do you have any other suggestions please.

Thank you.

  • Dear Buffy,

Thanks very much for getting in touch and welcome to our online community, I hope you find it supportive. My name is Jo and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

There are quite a few chats on our Online Community discussing items that people have used to cover PICC lines. PICC lines are similar to a midline in the way that they need to be protected and keep clean and dry. Some chemotherapy units offer a prescription for a Limbo branded cast and dressing protector. You could ask your chemotherapy team if this is something that they can provide.

I know that you have not mentioned your current treatment status, but here is some general information about exercising while receiving cancer treatment . People with a low immunity due to treatment should avoid exercising in public gyms and swimming baths. This link also provides some general information about midline care, with specific advice about refraining from swimming. If you are planning to go swimming during or soon after your treatment, then we’d recommend discussing it with your cancer team first.

    Best wishes,

    Jo, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
