Headaches and nausea with breast cancer

I’ve had some issues with headaches, nausea and dizziness since November and from being intermittent, it has become pretty constant.  I have now been diagnosed with breast cancer.  I’ve had blood tests and blood pressure monitoring that have ruled out other causes for the nausea and have been prescribed some prochlorperazine tablets that help somewhat.  I can’t go out as I get too travel sick.  Someone in a Facebook breast cancer group thinks that dizziness with breast cancer may be called something like Durran disease but I can’t find anything relevant online.
I have not been prescribed any cancer medication yet so it’s not medication to blame.

  • Hi

Thanks for getting in touch, and welcome to our online community. I’m not sure if you have found our breast cancer forum, but it might be a good idea to join that too.

I’m not sure who you have spoken to about the headaches and other symptoms, if it’s been your GP. But we would encourage to let your breast care team know about them as soon as you can, if you haven’t already. That way they can assess if they are possibly related to your diagnosis and decide if any investigations are needed.

There can be so many different reasons for your symptoms, and it would be difficult for us speculate what the reason may be. This is why it’s important to be assessed by someone who can access your medical records, and possibly arrange to see you face to face if needed.

If you find that your symptoms are worsening in any way, it is important to speak to someone about this. This may be your GP when they are available or the 111 service.

Keeping a symptom diary can help you understand more the nature of your symptoms. As they are intermittent there may be triggers that you haven’t noticed. Having a record of when they start, what makes them better and what make them worse might help to get them under better control.

I hope this helps and you get some relief soon. In the meantime, if we can help further please don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

Take care, Linda (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
