Hi, I've been fighting non hodgkins lymphoma for about a year now an had two courses of chemotherapy. Unfortunately the lymphoma has returned again! But, this time I am sufferering with really bad night sweats.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this happening, or is there any medication I can take?

  • Hi WillieN,

Thank you for getting in touch with us, and welcome to our online community. My name is Annerose and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support line.

I am sorry to hear that you have a recurrence of the Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, and that you suffer from bad night sweats. The causes are different from the disease or treatment induced hot flushes.

Unfortunately, night sweats are a symptom of Lymphomas, sometimes called B-symptoms. Doctors really don’t know why these are happening. Therefore, as a symptom it is very difficult to treat, but your team will take this into account when they offer you treatment.

It might be a good idea to talk to your treatment team about the severity of your night sweats and ask if they can suggest something to bring you relieve. Sometimes complementary therapies have been found helpful, but you should not try any of it without discussing it with your team first.

You might find the online support service of Lymphoma Action UK can also be very helpful.

I hope this has been useful, please don’t hesitate and get back in touch if you have further questions.
