Hi, well what a year with first covid. So felt unwell and tried to get an appointment and my dr said paracetamol! Two weeks later a heart attack then open hear surgery. Eight months back and felt unwell! GP told me I had a uti! Now to today with prostate cancer and radical surgery to attack it. Do you remember when your children said” it’s not fair” Well let me shout it out ITS NOT FAIR!

  • Hi Train Crash,

Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to the online community.  My name is Adrienne and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses at Macmillan.

I’m so sorry to read about everything you’ve been going through over the past year.  I can only imagine how tough this has been and I think it would be fair to say that you are perfectly entitled to shout ‘it’s not fair’.

I see that you have joined our prostate cancer forum so hopefully this will be a supportive environment for you to talk to others who are going through radical prostatectomy.

I understand that getting this diagnosis will have been overwhelming.  Please know that we offer specialist counselling through Bupa as well as email support from us, from diagnosis.  There may also be support groups local to you that may be of interest.

If you would like more information on the surgery itself, you can read this on page 63 of our booklet on Understanding Locally Advanced Prostate Cancer

I hope this was helpful.  If you feel you’d like to talk things through, then please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are open 7 days a week from 8am till 8pm. Our number is 0808 808 0000.

    Best wishes and take care,

    Adrienne
