Hi

after my breast mri I was told that I had a liver lesion which required ultrasound . The sonographer was non comittal about what it could be , said he would write a report and send to consultant . He’s did say it was about 1.5cm and he had problems finding it initially . He didn’t say if there was anything else showing .
I haven’t started any treatment for breast cancer as yet but was told on diagnosis in November it was ILC stage 1, poss 2 grade 2 .
will I need another mri and liver biopsy ? I’m terrified this is a metastasis and the original diagnosis was way out .
Thank you .

  • Hi Looktothefuture,

My name is Gail and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Support Line. I’m sorry to hear you’re so worried about waiting for your results as uncertainty is extremely difficult to cope with. I’m glad you got in touch as sometimes chatting it through and gathering information can help.

I see you joined our Breast Cancer Forum also and appear to have the support and friendship of others going through similar. Hopefully, that provides some comfort, knowing you’re not going through this alone.

Please remember you can always speak with our nurses directly too, as sometimes this can help us offer emotional support as well as information.

I was wondering when your next appointment is to speak with your Oncology Team and if it may help to reach out to your Clinical Nurse Specialist to talk through your concerns and ask if they can offer further clarity.

It’s difficult to say with any certainty what the sonographer may have picked up in the MRI scan, but their report is usually sent quickly to your Cancer Team who will discuss any findings at their next Multi-disciplinary Team meeting (MDT).

Here they may discuss if further tests may help but normally your consultant or nurse specialist will reach out to you with an appointment to discuss the results. If you don’t have an appointment, you can contact your consultant’s secretary to ask when that will be.

Liver masses are common within the general population and are often unrelated to cancer, but of course it’s important for your team to offer more clarity in relation to the results of your MRI. If your consultant says the lesion maybe related to the cancer, please be aware there have many developments in relation to the treatment of secondary breast cancer.

I see your initial post in the forum was 6 days ago, so it may be your Cancer team can explain the findings of the MRI scan soon, so please reach out to them or your nurse specialist.

I hope this information helps, but please don’t hesitate to get back in touch, like I say, it may help to chat with us on our Support Line so we can also talk more about how this affecting you emotionally.

I hope you get your results soon, in the meantime please take care.

    Best wishes,

    Gail-Macmillan
