I've just found out my abdominal cancer has spread to my neck and my situation is inoperable. My query is could my cancer spread to my brain ? I'm trying to sort my life and plan ahead and that's the one thing that worries me

  • Hi Africa1

Thanks for getting in touch at what must be a really difficult time after hearing that your cancer has spread to your neck and is inoperable.

Cancer can spread to other areas in the body through either the lymphatic system or bloodstream.  Once cancer has spread else where there is a risk that it can travel to another area like the brain. We know that some cancers are more likely to spread to the brain but that this doesn’t always happen even if the secondary cancer has been found close by in the neck.

You don’t say if your clinical team have suggested another option for treatment or if surgery was your only current option. You should chat through what you are concerned about with your team at the hospital.

Planning ahead  is always a good idea. This is because even without the development of brain secondary’s it can be difficult to make plans as cancer develops and you feel less well. You need to do what feels right for you at this time.
