Financial support during treatment

I am 69 and receive my state pension and a small private annuity but I still work part time to keep our heads above water.

i have just been diagnosed with recurrent breast cancer and am facing chemo followed by mastectomy.

i am assuming I am going to be unlikely to be able to work much during chemo and recovery from surgery and we will struggle without my income.

are there any benefits or allowances that we could get?

Hubby has an old basic state pension and a minuscule private pension (minuscule but enough to not qualify for pension credit).

it bothers me that we are going to incur extra expenses to get to frequent hospital visits etc when we have little spare income
