My wife has uterine carcinosarcoma, terminal of course.  She has had 3 sessions of chemo and we have a CT scan scheduled for 13/10.  At this stage, chemo may be abandoned and her death managed. It is only palliative at this stage but is causing much distress.
what happens now?  She would prefer to be at home, not a hospice. Can we get a hospital bed installed?  What is the health visitor regime?  I’m lost without information.

  • Hello N99 and thank you for contacting the Online Community.

I’m sorry to hear about your wife’s diagnosis, it’s understandable this is causing you both distress.

Palliative nurses (like Macmillan nurses), specialise in pain and symptom management as well as offering emotional support and helping to co-ordinate care. They work on a referral basis and a health care professional like a G.P. can arrange this and other kinds of support, including referring to District Nurses who can provide certain equipment like hospital beds. Your wife’s G.P. can also talk through with you who would be able to visit and when.
