Hi I don't really know who to ask about this. My dad was diagnosed with cancer on Monday this week it was such a shock to me i was a wreck sorry to say. I am trying to keep it together for my dad as he will hate to see my so upset. They have said they won't operate he has stomach liver and spleen cancer and is 86 so I'm concentrating on making his life as fabulous as possible. My husband who is great support and I had a holiday booked going this weekend to Spain I can't go and leave my dad It was out of the question. Anyway my husband contacted the insurance company and told them what the situation was and the situation they have asked for proof obviously my question is who do I ask for this We are seeing the McMillan nurse tomorrow and the doctor on Monday but wasn't sure who best to ask

Many thanks and best wishes to you all

  • Dear,

Thank you for contacting us. I'm really sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis and the shock that has come with this, especially when surgery or treatment isn't an option. A diagnosis like this can be such a difficult time for everyone involved so it's completely understandable that you won't want to leave your dad to go on holiday at this time.

It's good to hear you have upcoming appointments with the Macmillan nurse and the doctor so please do speak to either of them to explain about your holiday situation. They will have access to dad's medical records and can then provide the proof of diagnosis that is required for you to give to the travel insurance company.

Please also know that there is a lot of information on our website page Macmillan - emotional support for family and friends, which has some really useful guidance which may help with how you are feeling at the moment. And please know you can get in touch whenever you feel you need some emotional support or someone to talk to - you can find the details of our freephone support line below or you can use our live web chat option, both are available seven days a week, 8am to 8pm.

I really hope this information is helpful. And please remember we are here for you all as a family as we understand how difficult a situation like this can be so do get back in touch if you have any questions or need further support.

    Take care,

    Marie S - Macmillan
