I Applied for ADP back in April when my nodular melanoma was stage 3c ( i also have other conditions) but my diagnosis changed 2 months ago to stage 4 inoperable and uncurable.  Still not had a decision yet but my question is would this new diagnosis mean I should be eligible under the special circumstances rule or not . I did call up and tell them about the new stage  but still not heard anything  so im wondering if I do qualify under the special rules would I need to start the application again . I have no idea how any of it works as I've never had to claim anything in the past

  • Hello Rab and thank you for contacting the Online Community.

You might find this information on our website helpful. It talks about ADP and what to do if your circumstances change and how to dispute or appeal a decision.

We also have a team of Money Advisers who can perform a benefit/grant check and talk to you about ADP as well. They will need information about your income, outgoings and any savings/investments you might have to perform a check.

I was sorry to hear that your cancer is inoperable and incurable Rab. How do you feel you’re managing just now? Do you have all the support you need? Palliative nurses (like Macmillan nurses), specialise in pain and symptom management as well as offering emotional support and helping to co-ordinate care. They work on a referral basis and a health care professional like a G.P. can arrange this and other kinds of support.

We’d be more than happy to talk things through with you further. We have a team of cancer specialist nurses here on the support line if you have any clinical questions you’d like to ask about your diagnosis.

We’re also here for your emotional support Rab. Cancer can bring up all sorts of feelings and it can be helpful to talk about these to try and process what’s happening.

You can call in on 0808 808 00 00 (7 days a week, 8am – 8pm), web chat or email if you’d prefer, and you can check our website to see what local support there is.

    Take care.

    Alex, Information and Support Adviser

Remember you can also speak with the Macmillan Support Line team of experts. Phone free on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or by email.
