My sister has been told she has not got a lot of time left with us, As she has been terminal for many years, and has come to terms with the fact

My question is about her house which is on the market, but us a buy to rent, her side of this is paid off but she still gas to pay rent at a lower cost, She has named me to deal with all the money stuff but I am unsure about, do I need to keep paying the rent after her passing until the house is sold, any help with this  would be appreciated, As I have no experience with this.

Regards Roy

  • Hi

My name's Vicky and I'm a Support Advisor here at Macmillan, I am so very sorry to hear about your sister's condition, how are you doing? Please know that if you ever need someone to talk to we're here for you too, every day, from 8am to 8pm on 0808 808 0000, please reach out as much as you need to, for as long as you need to.

With regards to your question, I wish I could offer specific advice to you, however, this is something you would really need to contact whoever she is paying rent to, whether it's a private lender/housing association/local authority etc. as every situation is different. You could also contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau, they may be able to give you further guidance on this too.

Once again, I'm sorry I can't offer any specific advice on this situation.

    Kindest regards,

    Vicky, Information and Support Adviser
