  • Hi

Thank you for contacting us, my name’s Vicky and I’m a Support Advisor here at Macmillan.  I’m so sorry to hear of your situation and understand how exhausting both physically and mentally going through cancer surgery and treatments can be especially when you have the added stresses of daily life and work too.

We have a great Welfare Rights team here at Macmillan who can take a look at your situation and see if there are any additional benefits and grants that you might be entitled to.  You can contact them on 0808 808 0000, select option 1 for support and then option 2 for Welfare Rights, they’re available Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.  Before you contact them it’s useful to have a note of your finances i.e. money into the household and money out, they’ll need this to complete the assessment.

It is also worth speaking to ACAS before you make any work decisions, you can discuss your situation with them and make sure that it’s the right thing for you, sometimes there are other options rather than giving up work completely and it’s important to get the right information and advice before you do anything.  I’ve put a link into their website and their helpline number is 0300 123 1100, they’re open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

You’ll find below links to some of our booklets, there’s a lot of information in them that may be of help to you and there’s other useful links in them too.  You can open the pdf versions by clicking on the links.

Finally ,Lynneylou, please know that the Macmillan Support Line is here for you too, we can talk to you about any other support available or just be there if you need someone to talk to about how you’re feeling.  We are here every day of the week from 8 am-8 pm on 0808 808 0000 or via web chat. Please keep in touch as much as needed we don’t want you to feel you have to cope with this on your own.

    Kindest regards,

    Vicky, Information and Support Adviser
