Hello, I have not been accepted on the mobility scheme due to 6 points on my licence. Is there anyway I can appeal this as I am a single parent with stage 4 cancer I have little support and need to get to appointments and need a vehicle for day to day living. My current car is off road and a mobility car is the cheapest safest option for me.

thank you in advance

My name is Liz, and I am a Macmillan Information and Support Advisor.

I am so sorry to hear that you have stage 4 cancer, and feel that you have little support, this must be such a challenging time for you and your family.   should you feel that talking to our team would help, you are very welcome to call the Support Line on any day.  For a listening ear, and advice, or clinical support you may like to call 0808 808 0000 or 0808 189 20 79 between 8am to 8pm, or, for Financial support, you may call the Money Team, on the same numbers from Monday to Friday between 8am to 6pm.  Our Money Team can walk you through a financial assessment, to understand your situation and to see if there are benefits you may be able to claim.

This Support Line link, will give you the details of our support teams, by phone, web chat or email.

It's understandable that you are concerned about transport options, getting to and from appointments can be very overwhelming at times: I can understand that a mobility car seemed a good idea.  Regarding an appeal, unfortunately this is not something that Macmillan can help with, however, I have some ideas about other organisations that may be able to help.

my first thought was to ask, if you have free Legal Advice with your current car, or home insurance?  Perhaps looking through those documents will uncover support you didn't realise was there.

As cancer is considered a disability, you may like to reach out to SCOPE This organisation mentions "we campaign to transform attitudes, tackle injustice and inspire action".  They certainly have a lot of information about the Motability Scheme.

Another organisation that sprang to mind, is the Citizens Advice Bureau.  This link to CAB disabled travellers may help with information regarding support with the cost of travelling, plus there is a Contact Us to find your local branch. My understanding is that you may request one free call with their legal team.

I can appreciate this may become "all too much", whilst you navigate through this appeal when you have cancer.  Perhaps you feel an advocate may help?  POWHER help people who, because of disability, illness, social exclusion and other challenges, find it difficult to express their views or get the support they need.

I don't wish to overload you with options, as you can always come back to us.

I wish you all the very best.

    Liz
