Hi I’ve been having bloody mucous for 3 weeks in my poo so I went to the doctors. I’ve been given 4 poo samples and a blood test. One of them being a FIT test.

if this comes back above 10 I know I need a colonoscopy but I go on holiday next week. What do I do? I won’t be able to answer the phone as it will charge me a big amount - the doctors don’t know I’m going abroad

also I know my travel insurance won’t be valid now. Can someone pls advise me on how much I can expect it to be now I have an on going investigation and which company is best?

  • I’ve done some research and I think I will be ok just giving them my email before I go on holiday and they’ll contact me through that. I think it depends on the specific GP tho if they’ll actually send them via email rather than phone.

But can someone please still advise me on how much I can expect to pay for travel insurance and where best to go? Or should I try to get insurance without medical cover?

  • Hi  ,

It must be a worrying time for you right now. As everyone's medical history and diagnosis are so personal to their own situation, here on the Macmillan Support team we're unable to give guidance on Insurance or recommend specific Insurance Companies.

You may find it useful to join the Macmillan Online Community. Our online community is somewhere you can discuss travel insurance with other community members in similar situations and circumstances, who may be able to recommend providers that can help, as well as discuss their own experiences. You can find our travel insurance pages here

You can also contact BIBA, the British Insurance Brokers Association who may be able to give further guidance and assist you in finding the right insurance here

As well as this you can also check out The Travel Insurance Directory which has been created by MoneyHelper (a separate organisation to Macmillan) and can be used to search for FCA approved travel insurers who may offer cover to people with pre-existing medical conditions or are undergoing investigations and tests. You can find them here

If you have any further questions about your medical tests or what next steps may look like, depending on your results, you can also speak to our Support Line Nurses on 0808 808 0000 and choose option 1 and then 3, and they will be happy to talk things through further.

    Take care,
