Hi

I've recently had my GIST removed, so I am now officially cancer free! Hurrah!! I am now on my adjuvant treatment, which involves staying on Imatinib for the next two years. My wife and I are planning a trip to Canada later this year, so I'm looking for a suitable (and hopefully cost effective) travel insurance. Any help would be gratefully received.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Take care.

Barry

  • Hi  , Barry

Thank you for getting in touch with us, my name’s Vicky and I’m a Support Advisor here at Macmillan.  First and foremost, that’s such wonderful news about now being cancer free, huge congratulations, a holiday to Canada sounds wonderful and I imagine it’s just what’s needed after al you’ve been through.

With regards to getting travel insurance, my advice would be to talk to your insurance company, from talking to other customers it seems that if you just complete a general application, it doesn’t always take the individual circumstances into account so it’s best to speak to them directly so that you can fully explain your situation.   You could also contact the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) for some more specific advice.

In our Online Community we have a travel insurance forum, people post advice about where they got travel insurance and recommendations too, I’ve put the link in for you to have a look. We also have a booklet on Travel and cancer which has some useful information and links to other organisations, you can read the pdf version via the link I’ve provided.

I hope this information is of some use to you Barry, if you need any further help please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

    Have a wonderful holiday.

    Kindest regards,

    Vicky, Information and Support Adviser
