  • Hi

I am so sorry to hear that your Mum's breast cancer has returned.  In combination with your own diagnosis, this must be such a difficult time.

You mention you are having problems getting home care; this sounds so stressful for you

May I ask, has your Mum’s GP been of any support at this time?  I am wondering if a referral has been started by her GP to Adult Social Services for a Needs Assessment?  The GP  may also wish to look into her dizziness more thoroughly, and suggest to the Social Work Team, an alarm to alert you if she falls.

    Monitoring services and telecare

If a referral hasn’t been explored yet, as mentioned above, Mum’s GP may be asked to help, or, with mums consent, you may speak with your Mum's local Social Services team.

Below is a link which will tell you a little more about the Needs Assessment.  A successful assessment could include help with personal care such as washing and dressing, preparing food etc.  Also, if equipment is needed the Social Care team can talk to you about that.

    Getting a Needs Assessment

may I ask, are private options open to you?   If you feel you would like to explore private options.  The agency below, may help you with suggestions for both Care and Nursing options.

Care at Home with the British Nursing Association.

If you live in England, you may like to use a postcode to search for local services, including Care Home agencies with the Care Quality Commission.  They inspect and report on local English services.

I don't wish to overwhelm you with information as you can always come back to us.

On the Support Line, we are open every day between 8am and 8pm, you are very welcome to call on 0808 808 0000 to discuss this situation, and indeed you own situation.  We can provide emotional, clinical and money support.
