We found out less than 2 weeks ago that my dad has 3 months to live. I have been so up and down lately, working full time then going  to hospital straight after work. but today me and my sister really come to blows and how I feel right now is that I never want to see her again. I feel like I'm losing it right now.

  • Hello

I’m sorry to hear about your dad’s health, it sounds like such a difficult time, so I am glad you are reaching out to talk through this.

When a loved one has cancer, it can be so hard with emotions running high and as you mention feeling so up and down – it is a lot to take in and try and cope with. I can see you messaged a good few hours ago, how are you feeling just now? I hope you have been able to take some time to try and settle after ‘coming to blows’ with your sister. Have you been able to talk through how you are feeling with her at all? Talking can help process your feelings, even if you are unable to talk to your sister just now, have you anyone you can talk to?

I’ve popped a link to one of our booklets below which talks about the emotional impact of cancer. It also starts to discuss ways to cope with these feelings, and different support options:

How are you feeling, the emotional impact of cancer.

It is also worthwhile looking at our guidance around feelings when a loved one has cancer and talking about cancer:
