Starting Prehab myself

Hi, I've been only just diagnosed with breast cancer and am currently waiting for my next appointment which is delayed due to the doctor's strike.

I'm trying to be proactive and follow my own prehab program (my hospital doesn't run one).  Are there any resources to help me find a personal trainer with experience in this area that I could approach myself?  I'm not having much luck online.

 I'm in London.  Thanks.

  • Hello Jackie and thank you for contacting the online community.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble finding a personal trainer to help with your prehab programme, I appreciate this must be frustrating.

Other than undertaking your own online research you could inquire at one of our information and support centres or ask the question on one of our forums.

There’s also information about prehab on the Cancer Research UK website and our Physical Activity and Cancer booklet has a number of useful organisations in the back.

How do you feel you’re coping with your diagnosis Jackie? Is there anything else we can help you with?

We have a team of cancer specialist nurses here on the support line if you have any clinical questions you’d like to ask about your diagnosis.

We also have a Money and Work team who can perform a benefit check for you and give guidance and information about what kind of financial support might be available. They will need information about your income, outgoings and any savings/investments you might have.

We’re also here for your emotional support. Being diagnosed with cancer can bring up all sorts of feelings and it can be helpful to talk about these to try and process what’s happening.

    You can call in on 0808 808 00 00 (7 days a week, 8am – 8pm), web chat or email if you’d prefer.

    Take care.

    Alex, Information and Support Adviser

Remember you can also speak with the Macmillan Support Line team of experts. Phone free on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or by email.
