Driving licence

Hi I am living with stage 4 kidney cancer since Sept 2020 and had a nephrectomy in Oct 2020.

In May 2021 I had successful stereotactic radio surgery on two small brain metastases. All my mri scans since (last 19 3 23)  have shown stability with no new lesions. I've not been allowed to drive since May 2021 but it appears I can reapply for my licence around now (8 weeks ahead of 2 years after primary treatment). Are there any guidelines or advice that you can offer about this process?

Thank you

Andy

  • Hello

Thank you for contacting the Online Community. I am glad to hear that you are now in a position to be apply to reapply for your driving license. Following the current information on the Gov website for reapplying for your driving license, it would appear that you would need to fill in a D1 form and send this off to the DVLA. You may also be required to send confirmation from your doctor to confirm the information and that they agree that you are medical fit to drive. This can delay applications if they do require further documentation from the doctor so may be worth getting this in advanced and sending along with the application. I hope this information proves useful  .
