Hi, I have just been diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma and wondered if this entitles me to a free NHS prescription card?
Many thanks

Hello Coops2022
Thank you for contacting the Macmillan Online Community.
I am sorry to hear you’ve recently been diagnosed with cancer, how have you been?
I am glad you have got in touch. In terms of accessing free prescriptions, you may wish to take a look at the NHS webpage Who Can Get Free Prescriptions, as on here there is an eligibility checker as well as information on free prescriptions for certain medical conditions- including cancer. It also talks through how to apply for a medical exemption certificate which would just be through speaking with your doctor.
Please know we are here to support you as much as needed going forward. With your question in mind, it feels important to highlight our Welfare Rights Team available on the Macmillan Support Line who could explore if you would be eligible for any financial support at the moment if that would be helpful. We also have our Information Nurses who are available for general medical questions you may have following your diagnosis, as well as our Information and Support Team who provide a space to talk things through and emotional support as well as help with any general or more practical questions. The Macmillan Support Line is available 8am-8pm, 7 days a week on:0808 808 00 00 or via web chat, 8am-8pm.
I do hope this information is helpful. Please just get back in touch if you need any further support or have any questions Coops2022.
Take care,
Jenna
